About Simple Chess

A silver king stands over a pile of toppled dark pieces on the menu of Simple Chess, a tall screen in black and grey whose logo still reads Chess Template. Three rounded buttons sit beside the king, Play, Skins and More Games, with a thumbs-up button below them.

Inside is the traditional game on a board of 64 squares, eight by eight. Each side starts with sixteen pieces, a king, a queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops and eight pawns, and you win by trapping the enemy king so that it cannot escape capture. The Skins menu is there for changing how the game looks.

Play with the mouse on a computer, or by touch on a phone or tablet. The upright layout suits a phone held in one hand.
