About checkers games

Checkers, also called draughts, is played on the dark squares of an eight-by-eight board. Each player starts with twelve pieces and moves them diagonally forward one square at a time, capturing by jumping over an enemy piece into the empty square beyond it. Reach the far row and your piece is crowned a king, which can move backward too. You win by taking all of your opponent's pieces or leaving them no move.

Besides classic checkers against a friend, the computer or players online, the games here include Chinese checkers, a different game where up to six players race their marbles across a star-shaped board, and Angry Checkers, where you knock the other side's pieces off the board.

Questions about checkers games

What are the rules of checkers?

Pieces move diagonally forward on the dark squares, one square at a time, and capture by jumping an enemy piece into the empty square behind it. Under most rules you must capture when you can. A piece that reaches the far row becomes a king and can move backward.

Are checkers and draughts the same game?

Yes. Checkers is the American name and draughts the British one for the same game on an eight-by-eight board. International draughts is played on a bigger ten-by-ten board.
